The information and calculator results provided on HoldingCost are for informational and educational purposes only. They do not constitute financial, legal, tax, or investment advice. Always consult a qualified licensed professional before making a financial decision.

Calculator results are estimates only

All calculator outputs are mathematical estimates derived from the inputs you provide and the assumptions declared on each calculator page. Results may differ from those provided by lenders, financial institutions, brokers, or accountants due to differences in methodology, fees, compounding conventions, currency, regional variations, and regulatory requirements that we cannot model generically. Where a calculator surfaces an unrealistic, unreachable, or degenerate result for your inputs, the page will explain why and suggest a recoverable scenario rather than show an "infinity" or other unusable number.

No financial advice

Nothing on this website constitutes financial product advice, legal advice, tax advice, or investment advice. HoldingCost is not, and does not employ:

  • Australian Financial Services Licensees or representatives;
  • credit licensees, mortgage brokers, or finance brokers;
  • tax agents, registered accountants, or actuaries;
  • solicitors, barristers, or conveyancers; or
  • insurance brokers or advisers.

Before acting on anything you read here or any calculator output, consult a qualified, licensed professional in your jurisdiction. See our editorial policy for how we research, review, and update our content.

Globally neutral content

Our calculators and guides are written to be globally neutral. They use generic currency placeholders ($X) and refer to "many jurisdictions" rather than naming specific countries. Tax rates, withholding rules, regulator thresholds, stamp-duty schedules, and consumer-credit caps differ by country, state, and over time — and our calculators do not encode any of them. You must verify any number against the rules that apply where you live before relying on it.

Per-domain notes

The following are common ways calculator output diverges from real outcomes, by domain:

  • Mortgage and loans — comparison rates, lender fees, redraw policies, and broker rebates are not modelled. Variable rates change without notice.
  • Property holding cost, stamp duty, capital gains — transfer duties, foreign-buyer surcharges, land tax, and capital-gains discounts are jurisdiction-specific and excluded from generic models.
  • Vehicles — depreciation curves, EV incentive schemes, fuel taxes, and registration costs vary by region and over time.
  • Investments — past returns are not a guide to future returns. Real-world investment outcomes are affected by tax treatment, brokerage, exit fees, and fund-specific costs that generic compounding does not capture.
  • Education — student loan systems, repayment thresholds, and scholarship programmes vary widely by country. Our education calculators model the financial mathematics, not any specific scheme.
  • Business and logistics — capital-allowance regimes, GST/VAT, and depreciation schedules are jurisdiction-specific.

Accuracy and currency

While we take care to ensure the accuracy of our calculators and content (see our editorial policy), HoldingCost makes no warranty, express or implied, as to the accuracy, completeness, currency, or fitness for purpose of any information on this site. Tax rates, regulatory requirements, and financial conditions change over time. Always verify results independently.

Advertising does not influence calculator results

HoldingCost intends to be funded by display advertising; setup is in progress. When advertising is live on this site, advertising never influences our calculator results, defaults, rankings, or recommendations. The mathematics in our engines is open, versioned, and documented. See how we make money for the full revenue-model disclosure.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, HoldingCost and its operators accept no liability for any loss or damage (whether direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or economic) arising from your use of, or reliance on, any information or calculator result on this website. Nothing in this disclaimer limits any rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law or other mandatory consumer-protection legislation that applies to you.
